I wonder how the afterburner would work? As far as I know, Plasma from a fusion reactor is directed through a magnetic tunnel and accelerated out the exhaust, how would afterburning work here? Directly injecting hydrogen into the exhaust?
Also fusion rockets would be extremely big, consider that ITER, the first reactor built that will produce a significant energy output will be several stories high.
